Compass created a Spilt Failure filtering dashboard for signalised intersections in Sydney CBD.
This analysis was exploratory only. It doesn't account for origin-destination information, trip purpose, and may be influenced by SCATS rebalancing cycles.
A split failure occurs when a traffic signal does not provide enough green time to allow a previously stopped vehicle to proceed through the intersection, making them wait for more than one cycle. Compass created a Spilt Failure filtering dashboard for signalised intersections in Sydney CBD.
Blue indicates a higher percentage of split failures and red indicates a lower percentage. Users can filter by location, date range, time of day (i.e., AM peak, PM, and off-peak), and the percentage of split failure trips.
The dashboard highlights trips where speeds drop below 10km/h at least once and have at least 4 data points within the intersection leg and:
- either be a point at the back of a queue or the front of the last recorded queue
- be a point in the middle of the queue that experiences a speed dip i.e., it decreases then increases again
Below are visualisations of the signalised intersections and the different legs of each intersection.
