Using WKT Files for Advanced Projects

Well-Known Text (WKT) files are a text markup for spatial objects like points, polygons, lines, or enclosed vector areas on a map.

WKT files can be used in the Compass platform to easily upload specific points, lines, or areas of interest without manually drawing them. You can access them in the advanced settings under the profile icon located at the top righthand side of the platform.

Different types of WKT files can be used for different tools inside the Compass platform. Compass Road Intelligence supports 2 types of WKT file types:

  • LineStrings - Available for the Origin-Destination and Path Analysis Tools
  • Polygons - Available for the Origin-Destination and Near-Miss tools

To input a WKT file, select the WKT button that will appear on the panels on the lefthand side of the map. Below is an example from the Path Analysis tool, where the WKT button appears on the Paths Panel.

Below is a table of different WKT files and their forms. Only the 2 file types listed above are supported.
