A Cloud Connected Vehicle is one that connects to the internet, other devices, or smart sensors and has the capability to send data between these networks. This includes vehicle-to-cloud (V2C) data. Most modern cars have a SIM card embedded in the head unit of the vehicle at the point of manufacture. This gained great enough scale for Connected Vehicles to become a viable data source from ~2018 onwards.
One of the first instances of a Connected Vehicle was developed by General Motors in 1996 for emergency vehicle applications. Now, most new passenger, private, and freight vehicles from 2014 onwards are considered to have a level of Cloud Connectivity.
